Coastal Shellfish Corporation recently launched the Northern Explorer, a customized landing craft that is now in operation at the company’s scallop farm sites. Earlier this month, the Northern Explorer had its maiden voyage from Campbell River to Prince Rupert, a 726 km, 4-day trip.
53 feet long with a 13.5-foot beam, the steel vessel has a gross tonnage of 16T. Cruising speed is 7.5 knots at 1600 rpm. This custom-designed workboat is equipped with a marine-grade Guerra crane, aluminum bulwarks and starwheels.
The Northern Explorer is a multi-purpose vessel that will be used for a variety of tasks, including: installation of anchors and longlines at Coastal Shellfish’s farm sites; handling of grow-out nets; harvesting scallops; and the transportation of goods between the company’s hatchery, farms and processing facility.
With the new workboat, Coastal Shellfish’s marine operations will be faster, safer and more efficient.
