Seawater is pumped through a high-tech filtration system to remove small particles from the water that might affect the scallop larvae while they are microscopic in size.

The company produces its own microalgae in a temperature-controlled greenhouse for feeding to the scallop larvae, spat and adults.

Coastal Shellfish’s hatchery is completely self-sustaining, controlling the whole life cycle from spawning the adult scallops, through larval, seed and juvenile stages, and ultimately growing the scallops in its farms to the adult stage again.
